Majid came to Ireland from Iran in 2005, hoping to find better job prospects that would allow him to provide a good life for his family. His wife and children remained in Iran while he began looking for work. After two years in Ireland as an irregular migrant, Majid was struggling to support himself. He missed his family and friends, and felt that the environment in Ireland was unfavourable. He did not feel at home in Ireland and did not believe he could integrate.
Majid read in a neighbour’s newsletter that IOM offered a voluntary return programme, and that he could apply for a reintegration grant through the organization. He met with staff in Dublin and they arranged for him to return to Iran. Majid reunited with his family a few weeks later, and immediately applied for reintegration assistance.
